Kathynmarissa became the 50th stakes winner worldwide for American Pharoah in Wednesday's $1.5-million Pepsi Dueling Grounds Oaks Invitational Stakes at Kentucky Downs.

A close third in the Tepin Stakes at Churchill Downs June 29 and second after leading in the stretch in the GII Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes Aug. 2, the Michael Caruso and Michael Dubb colorbearer was backed as the 5-2 favorite here.

She was bumped at the start and raced in seventh through a half mile in :48.60. The $200,000 KEESEP yearling made a four-wide bid off the turn for home and came alive down the center of the course beneath Frankie Dettori to deliver a career high in this rich contest.

Kathynmarissa will train up to the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Del Mar.

“Ever since we put her on the grass and every time she's run, she just kept getting better,” winning trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. said. “Her last race, we were absolutely thrilled with. And we were thrilled training her up to this race, and we were thrilled coming in here because every time she's run on the grass she's run huge. Don't know why she wouldn't have done it today. Frankie said when he jumped off her last time, you've got to take her to Kentucky Downs. So we were very excited, yes, and especially when they were turning for home.”

The winner's dam has also produced the unraced 2-year-old filly Last Note (Caravaggio) and a colt by Mandaloun of this year.
